All housing is affordable... but to who?
There's a mismatch between housing costs and wages in this country. Hardworking people are priced out of housing options. Here's what it looks like for Ohio in 2023.
Where Jobs Sleep
Public discourse in Ohio is often preoccupied with stories of growth and development. A new company moving in, or an established business expanding is met with inarguable praise of “more jobs.” Beyond the facts and figures of economic impact however, a question persists: where do those jobs sleep at night?
There is a mismatch between housing costs and wages in Ohio. Hard working people are priced out of options. Our OIP aims to help reframe “affordable housing” through a website showing where one can afford to live based upon their wage earned. After all, all housing is affordable to someone.
Survey Results
This research was conducted by Leadership Ohio Fellows to fulfill the Ohio Impact Project requirement, as a part of the program curriculum. The collected data was used to better understand the landscape of Ohio's affordable housing. This survey was available to all Ohioans. Survey respondents were residents of the following counties: Allen, Cuyahoga, Erie, Franklin, Hamilton, Licking, Logan, Lucas, Summit, and Warren.
